PS outing, sport and cultural activities  
On 13 July 2016, PS members had their summer group outing in Utrecht. On the program was lunch, biking/stepping, a visit to the Fort Rhijnauwen, canoeing, and a BBQ dinner.

Invited talk at United Nations/Kenya Conference 
On 28 June 2016, Paul Havinga gave an invited talk titled "The Rhino project - Towards Smart Wildparks" during the United Nations/Kenya Conference on “Space Technology and Applications for Wildlife Management and Protecting Biodiversity”. The conference was held in Nairobi, Kenya.

Okan Turkes successfully defended his doctoral thesis 
On 01 June 2016, Okan Turkes successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Opportunistic Beacon Networks”. The research has been performed under supervision of Prof. Paul Havinga (promotor) and Ir. Hans Scholten (assistant-promotor).

PS visit to Internet of Things Lab of Cognizant India 
On 20 April 2016, PS delegate visited Internet of Things (IoT) lab of Cognizant India. Cognizant is a leading provider of consulting, information technology and business process services and one of the fastest growing companies in India. IoT related R&D is one of the focal points of Cognizant.

Kick off meeting of the COPAS project in Bangalore, India 
The kick off meeting of the COPAS (Cooperating Objects for Privacy Aware Smart public buildings) project took place on 19-20 April 2016 in Bangalore, India. The COPAS project is a joint project between PS, the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IITB) and Cognizant India. The main objective of COPAS is to design methods in the area of distributed and opportunistic wireless sensing and distributed big data analytics to improve operational and energy efficiency, comfort, and safety of (semi)public buildings.
